Day 3:

Since we booked our cab previously, the cab arrived in the early morning. We asked him to stop near a good hotel for breakfast. Since it was early morning, he informed us that very few hotels would be open by now, and he stopped near some hotels. We had Poha and Sabudhana kichidi as our breakfast and started our journey towards Mandu. It took us around 2 hours to travel from Indore to Mandu.

Mandu Magic😍

Mandu is a ruined city in the Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh, India. It is located on the Vindhya Range at an elevation of 633 meters (2,079 feet) and is known for its stunning architecture and natural beauty.

Mandu was founded in the 6th century CE and rose to prominence as the capital of the Muslim Malwa kingdom in the 14th and 15th centuries. During this time, the city was a major center of trade and culture and was home to some of the most skilled architects and artisans in India.

We started exploring Mandu from Jahaz Mahal and ended up in Ashrafi Mahal.

Jahaz Mahal

We were so fascinated by the architecture of Jahaz Mahal that we hired a local guide to learn more about its architecture, history, and story around.

Jahaz Mahal

Jahaz Mahal, also known as the Ship Palace, is a 15th-century palace located in the Mandu Fort complex in the Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh, India. It is one of the most iconic landmarks in Mandu and is a popular tourist destination.

The palace was built by Sultan Ghiyas-ud-din Khilji, the second ruler of the Khalji dynasty of Malwa, in the mid-15th century. It was originally built as a harem for the sultan's wives and concubines. The palace is located on a narrow strip of land between two artificial lakes, the Munj Talao and the Kapur Talao. It is built in a unique style that resembles a ship floating in water.

The palace is made of red sandstone and has a two-story structure. The ground floor is divided into several rooms that were used by the sultan's wives and concubines. The upper floor is a large hall that was used for royal functions and entertainment.

The Jahaz Mahal is a fine example of Indo-Islamic architecture. It is a blend of Hindu, Muslim, and Persian architectural styles. The palace is decorated with intricate carvings and latticework.

Rani Roopmati Pavilion

Rani Roopmati Pavilion was built in the 16th century by Baz Bahadur, the Sultan of Malwa, for his wife, Rani Roopmati. Rani Roopmati was a beautiful and virtuous woman, and she was deeply in love with Baz Bahadur. The love story of Baz Bahadur and Rani Roopmati is one of the most famous love stories in the history of Madhya Pradesh.

The pavilion is a large and beautiful building. It is built of red sandstone and has three floors. The first floor has a court hall, where Baz Bahadur and Rani Roopmati often sit together. The second floor has a hall where music and dance performances are held. The third floor has a terrace, from which one can enjoy the view of the surrounding area.

Baz Bahadur's Palace

Baz Bahadur's Palace in Mandu, Madhya Pradesh, India, is a historic palace built in the 16th century by the Khilji dynasty ruler Baz Bahadur for his beloved Roopmati. The palace is situated on a 365-meter-high, steep hill and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Mandu.

The palace has two main sections: one section is for Baz Bahadur, and the other section is for Roopmati. Baz Bahadur's section is the main part of the palace and includes a large court hall, several rooms, and a mosque. Roopmati's section is located behind the palace and includes a small court hall, a few rooms, and a temple.

The architecture of the palace is a mixed style that incorporates elements of Mughal and Rajasthani aesthetics. The exterior of the palace has Mughal-style windows and arches, while the interior has Rajasthani-style carvings and paintings.

Baz Bahadur's Palace is an important part of the history and culture of Mandu. The palace is also a symbol of the love story between Baz Bahadur and Roopmati.

The palace is surrounded by lush green gardens and offers stunning views of the surrounding hills and valleys.

Jami Masjid

The Jami Masjid of Mandu is one of the finest examples of Afghan architecture in India. It was built in the 15th century by Hoshang Shah and completed by Mahmud Khilji in 1454. The mosque is located in the center of Mandu, a hilltop town in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.

The Jami Masjid is built on a raised platform and has a large courtyard surrounded by cloisters. The prayer hall is located on the western side of the courtyard and is topped by three large domes. The domes are decorated with intricate geometric patterns and are supported by pillars and arches.

The mosque also has several other features, including a minaret, a fountain, and a madrasa (religious school). The minaret is located in the northeast corner of the courtyard and is decorated with bands of calligraphy and geometric patterns.

The fountain is located in the center of the courtyard and is used by worshippers to wash their feet before entering the prayer hall. The madrasa is located on the southern side of the courtyard and was used to teach students about Islam.

Hoshang Shah's tomb

It was built in the 15th century by Hoshang Shah, who ruled Mandu and took on the title of Sultan of Malwa from 1406 to 1435.

The tomb is made of marble and is situated in a large garden. It is built around a square courtyard, and its main entrance is on the north side. The entrance has carved arches and floors. The interior of the tomb is beautifully decorated and houses the grave of Hoshang Shah.

Hoshang Shah's Tomb is considered to be the oldest marble tomb in India and is a fine example of medieval Indian architecture. It is one of the many historical monuments in Mandu, which also includes the Jami Masjid, Rupmati Pavilion, and Hindola Mahal.

Ashrafi Mahal

Ashrafi Mahal was built between 1405 and 1422 during the reign of Sultan Hoshang Shah. The building was originally a madrasa but was later converted into a tomb. Ashrafi Mahal gets its name from its steps, which resemble gold coins (ashrafis).

Ashrafi_Mahal

Ashrafi Mahal is a two-story building with a domed hall. The walls of the building are decorated with beautiful carvings and paintings. Ashrafi Mahal is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Mandu.

There is an interesting story behind the Ashrafi Mahal. It is said that the queens of Sultan Hoshang Shah were very fat. He ordered them to climb the stairs of Ashrafi Mahal to lose weight. For every step they climbed, they were given a gold coin.

The queens followed the Sultan's orders and were soon able to lose weight. Ashrafi Mahal has since become a popular place to get rid of obesity.
